Meniere's, Vertigo, Dizziness, DizzyMeniere’s disease is thought to affect around 3.5 million people in the US and can dramatically affect a person’s day-to-day life and sometimes their mental health.

The condition can cause headaches, a loss of balance, vision problems, nausea, and sometimes hearing loss. Some people may only have one symptom. Others may be affected by more. As such, patients are constantly on the lookout for relief care to relieve symptoms which would enable them to live a normal life. However, the options are fairly limited, and many patients end up taking over-the-counter medication for whatever symptoms they have (e.g. a headache or nausea).

Meniere’s disease is a result of problems in the inner ear, and although the exact cause is still not known, scientists at the University of Colorado School of Medicine think it may down to a low blood flow to the brain.

The brain depends on a normal blood flow to work properly—for example, receiving enough oxygen. If the blood flow to the brain is too low, then many of brain’s functions may be impaired. Of course through the nervous system, the brain controls everything our body does. We rely on our brain for all our other bodily functions.

While some patients stick with medication, many are looking for a non-invasive, natural alternative that can both alleviate symptoms and perhaps also prevent them occurring in the first place.

Upper Cervical Care for Meniere’s Disease

For this reason, more patients are visiting upper cervical chiropractors who look at the C1 vertebra in a person’s neck to see if there are any problems with alignment. If this bone is out of place, it can affect both the brain and nervous system and, therefore, other functions within the body.

By slowly manipulating the atlas bone and putting it into the correct position, blood flow improves and the brain function is restored.  A study of 139 people with the condition who visited an upper cervical chiropractor revealed that many felt relief from symptoms with some being relieved of all symptoms altogether.
