Whiplash, Neck Pain, Neck Ache, Back Pain, Back Ache, Headache, Headaches, Migraine, Migraines, accident, car accident, Neck Injury, Neck Trauma, Sports AccidentWhen someone thinks of whiplash, the idea that comes to mind is usually a car accident. However, whiplash can be caused by a collision at the speed of only 5 mph. A car does not have to be involved. Was the crash very minor? What if a person was tackled by another? Or even just tripped and fell? Maybe a sudden stop on a lawn mower or a bicycle? All of these can lead to whiplash and, if not treated properly, migraine headaches.

How Whiplash Creates the Environment for Migraines

When a person gets whiplash, it causes the neck muscles to overextend. This can affect the bones of the upper cervical spine, particularly the C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) to misalign. If these bones are out of alignment by as little as ¼ of a millimeter, cerebrospinal fluid flow and blood flow to and from the brain are compromised. This begins to create problems within the body that may not be manifest until many weeks or even many years later. Migraines can be an end result of not getting spinal misalignments corrected.

When someone endures whiplash, he may feel that icing the neck, resting, and taking over-the-counter pain meds may be enough. While this may help relieve some pain, it is vital to be examined by a professional who knows how a misalignment of the upper neck affects the entire body.

Upper Cervical Chiropractors and Whiplash

At Upper Cervical Chiropractic San Diego, we understand that if someone has a misalignment in his upper neck vertebrae, it is important to realign the spine as soon as possible to restore health and well-being. We will examine a patient’s neck to see where the misalignment is. Then, using the latest techniques, we will begin to work with the person to correct the problem.

By using a gentle method that does not involve twisting or popping the spine, we allow the body to begin healing itself, resulting in longer lasting relief for the person. Most patients see benefits after only a couple of adjustments.
